How this is calculated

Each month, 12% of basic + DA goes in from you and the employer’s share (12% minus EPS) from them. Interest is worked out monthly on the running balance at 8.25% ÷ 12 and credited at the year end.

employer EPF = 12% × basic − 8.33% × min(basic, ₹15,000)
interest = Σ monthly balance × 8.25% ÷ 12

Interest on your own contributions above ₹2.5 lakh a year is taxable; the withdrawal is tax-free after 5 years of service. Many employers contribute 12% on a capped wage of ₹15,000 instead: check your payslip.
